THE NATIVE SON

Ryan and Maxine Sumner met while working at some of the most celebrated restaurants and bars across the country. Their journey took them from Harvard & Stone, Good Times, and The Spare Room in Los Angeles to Andre Balazs’ Sunset Beach in New York. They later opened three concepts in Canada. Upon starting a family, they chose to return to Ryan’s roots in Canton, TX.

NATIVE SON is Ryan’s Love Letter to East Texas, celebrating the rich Southern, Cajun, and Texan cultures that converge in the region stretching from the Southeast Texas Gulf, through the Piney Woods, and into the Post Oak Savannah in the North.

“You don’t starve a champion.”

Eat.

True to brand, Native Son’s menu starts with family recipes and elevates them with local produce and modern technique. Our menu allows us to be simultaneously accessible and comforting, while still being interesting and unique.

Drink.

Van Zandt County was dry until just a few years ago. Native Son stakes it’s claim as the local tavern that should’ve always been here. A public service for the community. A place where you can get the news, the gossip, & a cold beer after work, a craft cocktail with your meal, or sit back and relax with our collection of unique spirits, beers, & wines.
